Any time someone reaches a historic milestone in sports, there's always one question afterward: Can they do it again? And it looks like reigning six-time CrossFit Games champion Tia-Clair Toomey is preparing to answer the bell.

In a recent interview with NewsChannel5 in Nashville, TN, Toomey revealed that "the plan" is to defend her record six consecutive CrossFit Games titles next summer. At this time, Toomey has not otherwise publicly addressed the reveal of her plan on the local news channel. But this early tidbit is undoubtedly enough to create enthusiasm around the strength sports world.

Toomey is currently training for November's Down Under Championship, alongside teammates Brooke Wells and Ellie Turner. Then, just a few months later in February 2023, the CrossFit Open kicks off a brand-new season for the sport. Turns out the grind never stops when you’re competing against the fittest athletes on Earth.

John Haack Breaks an All-Time Bench Record

The United States Powerlifting Association (USPA) Raw Pro meet took place this past weekend in North Kansas City, MO, and records were being toppled all over the place. First, powerlifter Joe Sullivan hit a 385-kilogram (848-pound) raw squat that broke his own all-time record in the 100-kilogram division. Then, Samantha Rice broke the all-time raw deadlift in the 90-kilogram division with a 275-kilogram (606.3-pound) pull.

But arguably the most impressive performance of the entire weekend came from powerlifter John Haack, who became the first 100-kilogram lifter to raw bench 600 pounds or more in an official competition. His mark of 272.5 pounds (600.7 pounds) is a new all-time record, edging out the previous mark of 267.5 kilograms (589.7 pounds), which Haack set in January 2022.

Not only that, but his total on the day — 1,030 kilograms between bench, squat, and deadlift —set yet another record for the 100-kilogram class.
