An 80-Year-Old's Deadlift Birthday Present

Magne (last name undisclosed) is an older powerlifter from Norway who trains with the SATS Norge gym in Oslo. During a recent training session, the athlete notched a raw 150-kilogram (330.7-pound) deadlift personal record (PR) to commemorate his 80th birthday. He did it from a conventional stance while using an overhand grip and wearing a lifting belt.

As impressive as Magne's lift was, it was about more than a simple PR. Here's a bit from the translated Instagram post highlighting Magne's accomplishment:

"His [Magne's] wife is physically handicapped. Magne is training to be strong enough to help her so she can continue to live at home."

Oh, wow, is someone cutting onions? There's still plenty of time left in 2022, but this is easily one of the most heartwarming stories from a strength athlete we've seen in a while.

Derek Lunsford won't defend his 212 Olympia title in Las Vegas this December. Instead, the star bodybuilder will officially move to the Men's Open division and compete for the vaunted 2022 Mr. Olympia crown.
