7 Brides for 7 Influencers

Credit: Will Tennyson / YouTube

Is it gauche to suggest that training programs are like opinions and, therefore, like an unmentionable part of the lower body? These days, it just seems like everyone has one.

Fitness influencer Will Tennyson, in an attempt to sort through which is which, purchased seven fitness programs from seven different online personalities to see who had the best workout regimes for sale.

If you spend time in the internet fitness world, you will probably know several of these names, including the likes of Jeff Nippard, Greg Doucette, and Larry Wheels (living at ease alongside the venerable Ricky Goodrich, natch). These programs range from about $10 to over $100 and vary just as much in complexity and assistance.

Are some influencers just trying to make a quick buck off their name recognition, or are they tried-and-true fitness experts in it for the long haul of changing bodies and minds? Check out Tennyson’s take on these popular fitness icons’ workouts.

Kettle-bench?

When you think of great bench pressers, you can be forgiven if your mind doesn’t automatically drift to the land of kettlebells.

While it’s true that high-rep swings and suitcase carries might not put pounds on your bench, it would be a mistake to completely ignore the top-handled weight when it comes to pressing strength. In fact, using kettlebells to help your stalled bench pressing might be just what the doctor ordered.

Fixing stability issues, rather than raw strength, is often an issue as you try to progress your bench press. Using kettlebells in a variety of ways, such as with bottoms-up floor presses or alternative stability ball presses, can allow you to train this stability without beating yourself up by always training with near-maximal weights. If moving more weight while lying on your back is important to you, the kettlebell might be the tool you’ve been missing out on.

The Song of Achilles

Aside from wondering why Gandalf didn’t use the eagles to bring the ring to Mordor, one of the most argued-over pieces of fiction involves asking why Thetis didn’t just throw her son in the River Styx and pull him out with a net.

If that went over your head, that’s fine (but really…). Achilles tendon injuries are some of the most strangely painful and debilitating for athletes. In addition to being a problem in the traditional “big four” sports, Achilles ruptures are also a problem in high-level CrossFit events. This article details two such occurrences and looks at how the competitors took time to fix themselves up for another go-around.

Rehabbing an Achilles is a time-intensive process that involves a lot more than just icing your ankle for a few weeks. The process of healing takes as much effort and mental strength as the intense physical preparation for a CrossFit Games event. If you’ve ever wondered how an elite athlete can bounce back from a career-threatening injury, this is a must-read article.
